Alec's goodies:
Alec Berry founded RestonTech in March, 2002, and now serves as a Senior Partner and Director of Technology. Prior to RestonTech, he founded (in 1996) and served as the CTO of Exit1, Inc., a premier web development company. In the early 1990's, he was a sought after specialist for projects at IBM, Loral, EDS, CSC, and GTE.
Alec is the lead developer and architect of many of RestonTech's projects. His work now focuses primarily on internet infrastructure; including VPNs, e-mail systems, and designing custom security products. When he is setting up servers he uses FreeBSD and/or OpenBSD. When the server will be a firewall, router, and/or load balancer he designs it using pf. When he finds himself diving into code, it is usually Perl and Javascript (although he does a fair amount of PHP and MySQL these days). If you point out to him that his FORTRAN, C, assembler, and PostScript days are long behind him, he will happily retort that so are his Windows 3.11 days.
He is an outspoken advocate of open standards and open source software, as well as an ardent anti-spammer. He was featured on a PBS special on privacy and security, has been interviewed on several live radio programs, and frequently engages in industry discussions on security best practices (see sample postings on the right).
In his spare time, Alec tries to pass as a photographer.
